This movie was complete fun. The plot wasn't very deep but it hit the spot nicely. It starts in some unknown snowy mountain range(Pyrenees? ) and ends in Egypt. It looked like it was based on the discovery and recent theories of a relatively modern and cosmopolitan Egyptian civilization that predated the better known dynasties by 7000 yrs. It also takes from the interesting theories surrounding the astronomically inspired ancient architecture found around the world. All of the structures appear to have been designed from the same 10,000 BC star map; suggesting a single source since the structures were built across the ages. The villain was supposed to be from one of the lost civilizations of Lemuria or Atlantis. Unfortunately all this interesting premise cannot be explained in the context of the story and most people don't watch enough discovery channel to recognize it. As with many Emmerich films, he sacrifices some accuracy for expediency. The animals he represented weren't all indigenous to that place and/or time. But the viewers probably wouldn't have been as thrilled with unfamiliar prehistoric creatures. Although Phorusrhacus'( killer birds) were pretty thrilling they were an North and South American animal. Oh well. Regardless of the artistic license with the scientific record, this movie was really about the unconquerable human spirit and the brilliance of courage, even in the face of overwhelming adversity. In this the movie does a great job. The simple good vs. evil plots are my favorites. Whatever nuanced justifications other stories try to use to mitigate the evilness of the antagonists, some acts are just too terrible to forgive. The good guys are good because they are opposing that evil act at that moment. We cheer the cause not the men. I'll leave the nuance for the daily papers and just enjoy thrilling adventure in the movies and take them for what they are. I liked this movie.

This wasn't a great movie, but it was ok. In fact it was better than most that are playing right now, and I've seen them all. It had some interesting dialogue and scenery.

Roland Emmerich seems to like making movies for complete idiots- Independence Day, Day After Tomorrow, and now this. Yay make up your own history, aliens are ibm compatible and the ice age takes 15 minutes to come and go. STOP MAKING TRASH, JERK.

The beginning of the movie seemed to be quite dry but as the film progressed, the plot/action/sce nery increased in richness. It's really a lovely film with consisting of both comic relief, some magic, and action!

This movie was quite entertaining, with good dialogue and a bit of an over-the-top plot. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. As a geographer, I had a few complaints concerning historical accuracy, but on a whole, it was a super fun flick. 1. What were woolly mammoths doing in the desert? They were a tundra animal, with thick fur to withstand subzero temperatures. They would have roasted in a desert climate. 2. The first pyramid ever built in Egypt, the Step Pyramid of Djoser, was erected in circa 2630 BC. Oops! 3. What is the setting of the movie? It begins high in the mountains at elevation, where snow is prevalent. The characters quickly end up in a rainforest/jung le that is equatorial. Are the final scenes located in Egypt with the Nile River? These early peoples trucked a mighty long way in a short amount of time! The movie looked spectacular. The woolly mammoths were impressive, as was the saber-toothed tiger. The ostriches were ridiculous. Will I buy it? Probably. Was it worth the $7.50 ticket? Absolutely.

I felt this movie was good. It started out kind of slow and boring for me but ended up being a great movie with a love story. Great movie for men because of the action and great for the women who love a good sappy love story.

It was fun to watch, but it was too predictable. The ending was kinda cheesy, but the whole idea of spirits made it ok.
Favorite line: \"Do NOT eat me when I save your life.\"

Roland Emmerich seems to like making movies were different ethnicities come together to save the world, lol - Independence Day, Day After Tomorrow, and now this. All his movies seem to center around 'Unity' - and thus, this was an epic adventure of involving unity. I loved this film, however there were a few corny parts involving the love story subplot. But I would definately buy this DVD or see it in the theater again.
