Burt (John Krasinski), an alterna-insurance broker, and his pregnant mate, the dour, nervous Verona (SNL alum Maya Rudolph) seek a community. Sadly, they learn that America is a beautiful country full of ugly people. The two travel, meeting parents who are too permissive, or not permissive enough, before visiting an idealistic couple with a multiracial like family in Montreal. Not enough jokes, by a long chalk. Alison Janney, the standout, as a sharp-tongued mom, is only temporary relief from the two leads: the moral and physical center of this movie's universe. The writers are Dave Eggers and his wife, Vendela Vida, who seek the wonder and freshness in aged platitudes about the innocence of children. The film is a sitcom for nesting hipsters with guest appearances by celebrities playing wacky relatives. (Richard von Busack)

I really enjoyed this film. It is funny without relying on the same old stuff that we've all seen a million times. Show me something new and I'll pay attention. It did and I recommend it for that reason. I require a lot from films, and I could have done without the opening scene, but you can relax into this film quite nicely and enjoy the ride. Very likeable main characters, superb supporting cast and a hoot to watch. I say see it.

Away We Go is an absolutely beautiful movie, both hilarious and sweet. The music is great, as well. It's romantic, but in a real sense, not just a dreamy, unrealistic, way so many movies show it. The characters are great. Another review I read said you don't really get complete characters, but I disagree. My favorite scene is the one on the trampoline. I definitely recommend seeing this hilarious, heart-felt, film, and buying the soundtrack, too. This movie made me want to have my own children, which I never wanted to have before I saw it.

“Away We Go” tries really hard to be a good movie but ends up being too long and very unsatisfying. The movie lost me in two ways – one: the story. Too many questions are left unanswered (for example why would you let your friends’ and family members messy lives influence you on whether on not a place is a good possibility for a new home?) And two: I felt the lead actors were never given a chance to fully develop and help me become emotionally involved with them. That said, I enjoyed the quirky and very entertaining older characters – but then I could watch Catherine O’Hara and Alison Janney read the phone book. If you’re in the mood for a not too deep road flick with occasional heart but very little soul, check it out. If you’re like me and expect more from your movies, not so much.
